Enugu – The Enugu State House of Assembly has summoned the Chairman of the state’s universal basic education board, Chief Ikeja Asogwa, over recent recruitment of teachers.
The Speaker of the assembly, Chief Edward Ubosi, who made the order in Enugu on Tuesday, said that the chairman should appear before it on Sept. 22 to explain the complaints surrounding the exercise.
Ubosi said that the recently concluded interviews for primary school teachers should have been extended for massive participation.
“Asogwa should appear before the house on Sept. 22 to state why the recruitment should not be nullified,’’ he said.
The assembly also affirmed the relocation of the state library from its present location in Holy Ghost Park to a more serene environment for reading and learning.
Presenting a motion on the relocation, Mr Mathias Ekweremadu (PDP-Aninri), said the present location was prone to noise and unwarranted sound from the market and motor parks.
The assembly also amended the law establishing the Enugu State Pilgrims Welfare Board.
Its Leader, Mr Ikechukwu Ezeugwu (PDP-Udenu), said that the original law did not provide for the duties and responsibilities of the executive secretary of the board.
Ezeugwu said the law did not provide in clear terms the duties and the tenure of the executive secretary.
The assembly, however, resolved that the executive secretary should be an officer and not a member of the board.
It ruled that the secretary should hold an office for a period of four years or might be re-appointed for another term.
The assembly adjourned sitting to Sept. 22.
