Enugu – The Enugu State College of Education Technical says the institution has received accreditation for 16 courses out of 17 programmes in the college.
The Provost of the institution, Prof. Mary Nnamani made the disclosure in Enugu on Thursday when the Enugu Assembly Committee on Education visited the institution as part of its quarterly oversight function.
Nnamani explained that the degree award of the college had its first convocation in March this year in affiliation with the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka in Anambra adding that they would soon be mobilized by National Youths service Corps (NYSC).
She said the institution had accessed 2011 to 2014 Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the money was used for construction of more classrooms in the institution.
Nnamani explained that external auditors had been engaged for the institution which was a great step in enabling it access funds from TETFund.
The provost enumerated their challenges to include loitering by vendors and commercial drivers who had continually littered the school surroundings.
The Chairman of the Enugu Assembly Committee on Education, Mr. Mathew Ugwueze said that he was concerned about the challenges facing the college especially as it concerned completion of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) project.
Ugwueze said that the committee wanted to know the effort made to access fund for more projects especially from 2014 to 2017 and the usage of such funds.
He called on the Enugu State Capital Territory Development Authority to take immediate action to address the issue of commercial bus drivers and vendors loitering around the school premises.
The committee assured the management to work as a team in ensuring the quality and standard of education in the institution met international best practices.
The education committee also urged the school management to always keep the committee abreast with happenings in the school. (NAN)
