Enugu – The Wife of Enugu State Governor, Mrs Monica Ugwuanyi has donated free de-worming packs, drugs, books, wash hand basins and stands to five primary schools in Udenu Local Government Area of the state.
Ugwuanyi made the donation on Tuesday in Orba community through her organisation “Ugo Touch of Life Foundation,” after touring some schools in the area council.
The governor’s wife who urged the benefiting schools to use the items effectively assured that more schools would benefit in the next phase of the exercise.
She noted that her foundation had also made arrangements to carter for the health of rural dwellers.
“We will assist the rural dwellers in the areas of cervical cancer, hypertension, eye problems, type 2 diabetes and heart failure.
“These are in the priority list of my foundation as well as empowerment programme for women and youths in the state,’’ she said.
Ugwuanyi who expressed gratitude to all her collaborators, urged other philanthropists and Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to join hands to better the lot of the people of the state.
Mrs Ifeoma Ugwu, wife of the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the council, said that Mrs Ugwuanyi’s initiative was to checkmate the spread of worms in children and instill in them hand-washing culture.
Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Sam Ngwu commended Mrs Ugwuanyi for her laudable projects initiated to better the lives of children.
Ngwu noted that the Ministry of Health would assist her foundation to achieve its aim targeted at saving the lives of children and improving the health of the less privileged in the society. (NAN)
