ENUGU – The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr Abubakar Adamu, has appealed to herdsmen in the state to avoid the destruction of crops in farmlands to maintain the peace.
A statement from the Public Relations Officer of the Enugu Police Command, Mr Ebere Amarizu, said Adamu made the appeal during an interactive session with the herdsmen, traditional rulers, local government chairmen and divisional police officers in the state.
The commission urged the herdsmen to live at peace with their host communities by identifying with traditional rulers in their areas.
He said the meeting was to that there was no rancour and bitterness between the parties and guarantee that their cattle did not destroy farm crops.
Adamu, however, charged the local government chairmen to organise joint monthly meetings with herdsmen and security agents in their areas to maintain peace and tranquility in their communities.
“ I admonish you to live at peace with your host communities. You must identify with the traditional rulers of the areas where you want to graze your cow and ensure that your cattle do not destroy farm crops,’’ he said.
The commissioner said the meeting would reconvene in July. (NAN)
