ENUGU – The Enugu State Government is to collaborate with MTN to procure disability support equipment to improve the conditions of persons living with disability. The state’s Commissioner for Gender Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Ndidi Chukwu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Monday that three categories of persons with disability would benefit from the scheme. Chukwu said that only persons who were physically impaired, visually or hearing impaired would be considered. She said the ministry had distributed 500 out of the 600 forms designed for the programme from which it would select those to benefit from the programme.
[eap_ad_1] “Those that are physically impaired will be given wheelchairs, walking sticks, armpit crutches, elbow crutches and bendable calipers. “For the visually impaired persons, they will be given guide canes, braille machines and kits, stylus and mar bugs, solar laptop computers and talking phones while the hearing impaired persons will receive hearing aids (battery inclusive),” she said. The commissioner said that some project personnel and the beneficiaries would be trained on how to repair the appliances on how to use and maintain their respective mobility aids to ensure their durability. The programme will also be implemented in Abia, Bauchi, Edo, Gombe, Kastina, Kogi, Kwara, Rivers, Ogun, Ondo and Zamfara. (NAN)
