Super Eagles Goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama hopes to end his international career by winning the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon. The 32-year-old goalkeeper, who became the second Eagle to reach the 100 caps mark since his debut against Kenya in May 2002, said he would draw the curtain on his national team career by lifting the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations trophy.
“It’s impossible to play football forever and the next tournament in Gabon will be my last one. I’ve played in two finals, lost in 2004, won in 2013 and to win in 2017 is how I hope to be remembered. But more significantly we must not get ahead of ourselves because we need to qualify first,” Enyeama told BBC Sport.
Nigeria shockingly failed to qualify for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, and thus could not defend the title they succeeded in winning two years earlier – a situation Enyeama admits fans are still angry about.
Nigeria hosts Chad in Kaduna on Saturday, and he insists the Eagles must pacify their displeased supporters by tackling the challenge posed by Emmanuel Tregoat’s men with care.
