ES lauds ex-President Buhari for establishing commission for people with disabilities

ABUJA- Mr James Lalu, the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has commended former President Muhammadu Buhari for establishing the commission.

This is contained in a statement issued by the head of Public Relations of the commission, Mr Mbanefo JohnMichaels on Wednesday in Abuja.

The executive secretary gave the commendation when he visited Buhari in Daura, Katsina State.

Lalu also commended the sincere commitment of the former president, which he said became evident from 2015 during his presidential campaigns.

He said, the campaign tour provided the platform towards unveiling a national disability right advocacy plan in Nigeria.

“This eventually led to the establishment of the National Commission for Persons With Disabilities in 2020, I am particularly grateful to be the first Executive Secretary of the Commission.

”I also want to appreciate you sir on behalf of over 30 million persons living with disabilities across Nigeria.

We will forever remember you for your unwavering passion,” he said.

Lalu described the former president as an enigmatic grand defender of disability rights in Nigeria whose records will remain fresh in the minds of the entire disability community.

Responding, Buhari thanked the delegation for deeming it fit to check on his wellbeing after living office.

He said that his actions towards people with disabilities while in office was a true reflection of his mind and passion to entrench disability rights across the board.(NAN)
