BRUSSELS – The European Commission on Tuesday approved 44.82 million dollars, as the 2015 annual work programme for internal security fund for police and another 1 million euros for emergency assistance.
Dimitris Avramopoulos, EU Commissioner, Migration, Home Affairs, and Citizenship, said on Tuesday in Brussels that in order to maintain and improve the internal security, the union seeks to enhance capacity and preparedness of member states.
He said the programmes would provide support to transnational initiatives fighting organised crime and criminal networks.
Avramopoulos said EU Commission would also focus on drugs, firearms trafficking, smuggling of migrants and trafficking of human beings involving EU-member states located along smuggling routes.
He said the project also involved investments in horizontal tools for police cooperation, such as information exchange and training.
