BRUSSELS – The European Union (EU) said on Wednesday that it is opening an investigation into Google’s Android operating system.
The probe comes amid suspicions that the U.S. internet giant has gained an undue competitive advantage by programming smartphones and tablets.
Report says the probe is being conducted separately from a long-running EU investigation into how Google displays its online search results.
“Smartphones, tablets and similar devices play an increasing role in many people’s daily lives and I want to make sure the markets in this area can flourish.

“This will be without anti-competitive constraints imposed by any company,” EU Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager said. (dpa/NAN)
