ABUJA – Dr Don Etiebet, a trustee board member, People’s Democratic Party (PDP), says every eligible interested candidate of the party can contest for the governorship of Akwa Ibom State in 2015 election.

Etiebet, who was speaking to newsmen on Thursday in Abuja, said it was not correct to say that the state governorship position had been zoned to Eket Senatorial District of the state.

He said that the explanation was important following a publication attributed to the party National Publicity Secretary, Mr Olisah Metuh on Oct. 29, that the resolution on zoning was made at a meeting of the party’s National Working Council.

He said that the statement by Metuh was a mere endorsement of the Akwa Ibom PDP’s executives and not the national body.

“It was a mere endorsement by the party in the state.

“I met with the National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Muazu this morning who said 20 of them can contest if they are competent.

“The national chairman added that even if they are 20 people that indicated their interests by picking forms, their forms will be processed,’’ Etiebet said.

Etiebet added, “according to the national chairman, the party was still selling forms to those who are interested in contesting for the presidential position even as the party had endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for the position.’’

“The party has not excluded any candidate that is competent to contest,’’ he said.

Etiebet recalled that the party national executives at one of its meetings with the state executives said it would guaranty a level play ground for all who were willing to contest for the position.(NAN)
