Hamburg – Former Germany coach Heiner Brand is looking into an offer by the Japanese handball federation to help them to form a team for the 2020 home Olympics in Tokyo.
The Handball Inside magazine said on its website on Friday that Brand is to become a technical director of the Japanese federation and planned to fly to Japan in summer to discuss matters.
“I talked about this possibility during the World Cup in Doha (in January) with federation president Yoskihide Watanabe,’’ the 62-year-old Brand was quoted as saying.
Brand won the World Cup as a player in 1978 and as a coach in 2007 for Germany.
Japan are automatically qualified as hosts for the 2020 Olympic team events. The nation is not a major player in the sport of handball. (dpa/NAN)
