KAIAMA(KWARA) – A retired Assistant Comptroller-General of Immigration, Malam Abass Ahmed, has called for adequate funding and equipment for the Nigeria Immigration Service.
Ahmed made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaiama, Kwara, on Tuesday.
He said the logistics support was essential for the service to operate effectively.
He also suggested that more personnel be recruited into the service for enhanced performance.
Ahmed, who is also the Makama of Kaiama, headquarters of Kaiama Local Government, lamented the porous nature of Nigerian borders.
He blamed the porosity of the borders on “the colonial partitioning of people of the same origin into different countries”.
“Borders are artificial creation and as far as Immigration is concerned, the problem in Kaiama border is found all over the country.
“We separated people that are of the same parents because of colonial distribution or division.
“I think the Immigration officials are doing their best to contain the porosity of the borders,” the former immigration officer said.(NAN)
