ABUJA – Dr Aisha Audu-Emeje, wife of former Gov. Abubakar Audu of Kogi, has urged well-meaning Nigerians and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to cater for the displaced people in the society.
Audu-Emeje made the call on Monday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
She said that neglecting the displaced persons, especially the orphans and victims of insurgency, might force them to take to crimes.
Audu-Emeje said that these categories of people, especially the orphans, should be cared for to enable them have sense of belonging in the absence of their biological parents.
She also called for regular visitations to their various homes so as to familiarise with them and know their areas of needs.
According to her, this will go a long way in providing succour to the victims, instead of the N200 peanuts or other monetary values being giving to them as upkeep. “These children need things that are beyond money.
“Your constant presence is needed by them, if international bodies can render such assistance to them, why can’t we do same?
“You can only ascertain their needs through regular visitations. Life is not all about money, but care.
“When you put yourself in the displaced children’s positions, you will discover the psychological trauma and pains they are passing through.
“You can also assist them by providing mosquito nets, qualitative education and access to healthcare,’’ she said. (NAN)
