Ex-NCAA DG Muhtar Usman dies at 63

Director- of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Capt. Muhtar Usman, is dead.

Usman died on Tuesday night at a hospital in Zaria after a brief illness.

He died at the age of 63.

The of the Air Transport Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, Illitrus Ahmadu, confirmed his death to The PUNCH on Wednesday morning.

“I just received the news of his death. He was rushed to a hospital yesterday in Zaria, Kaduna State, before he passed on,” Ahmadu told our correspondent on phone.

Also, the Manager, Public Relations, NCAA, Sam Adurogboye, confirmed the sad occurrence in a text message sent to our correspondent.

Born on December 5, 1956, the astute aviator became the director of the civil aviation regulatory body in October, 2014, and served for five years. He handed over to the present NCAA boss, Capt. Musa Nuhu, in October 2019.

Before his appointment as NCAA DG, Usman was the Commissioner, Accident Bureau, and Managing Director of the defunct Airways.

His burial arrangement is expected to be announced soon by the family.
