LAGOS – Dr Osahon Enabulele, the immediate past President, Nigeria Medical Association, on Wednesday urged the Federal Government to honour the late Dr Ameyo Adadevoh and other health workers who prevented the spread of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
Enabulele, the Vice President, Commonwealth Medical Association, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
He expressed dissatisfaction that Adadevoh and other health workers who stood against the EVD in Nigeria were not included in the recent National Honours Awards list. [eap_ad_1] ”The non-recognition of Dr Adadevoh and other fallen health workers may act as further disincentive to an already demoralised medical and health workforce in Nigeria, with tremendous implications for health service delivery.
“It would have been an opportunity to reassure Nigerians of a possible plan by the Federal Government to bestow national recognition on health workers,” Enabulele said.
Adadevoh and some other health workers treated the first index case of EVD, the late Patrick Sawyer of Liberia, who brought the disease to Nigeria on July 29.(NAN)
