Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Following the attack on government officials in the Bukuru community of the Jos South Local Government Area (LGA), of Plateau State, last Monday, the Chairman of the LGA, Hon. Peter Vwang-Dung has said nothing can stop the enforcement of an Executive Order enacted by Governor Caleb Mutfwang aimed at sanitizing the State from street traders.
Recall that on Monday, one person was killed, and several properties, including cars and buildings set ablaze by hoodlums suspected to be Hausa Muslims, who threw stones and other dangerous weapons at a government task-force who were mandated to ensure the implementation of the Jos City Renewal Policy of the Governor.
Even though peace has finally returned to the community, the Jos South LGA boss, reacting to the development, said the government cannot be intimidated by miscreants.
Vwang-Dung who spoke to newsmen on Wednesday, emphasized that the Jos City Renewal has come to stay irrespective of those who want to flaunt the Order.
“Executive Order is a law and nobody can challenge it. The 003 Executive Order enacted by the Governor must be implemented. It has come to stay and the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB), will work to ensure that the Order must be achieved.
“As a government we cannot be intimidated, so miscreants should have a rethink and anyone caught igniting violence will be sorry and would be made to face the full waite of the law”, he said.
The LG Chair lauded security agencies who mobilized to restore peace in the affected area.
Our correspondent reports that the violence orchestrated by the hoodlums followed the signing of an Executive Order by the Governor, to control illegal erection of buildings, street trading and traffic in the State.
According to the General Manager of JMDB, Hart Bankat, who announced Executive Order No. 003, 2024, said it became imperative, considering the indiscriminate manner in which buildings were being erected with traffic control abysmally degenerated within the Greater Jos Master Plan.
