Abuja – Dr Safiya Ojo, a General Medical practitioner, Wuse General Hospital, Abuja, on Thursday advised employers of labour to put measures in place to ensure safety and health of their workers.
Ojo gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja in commemoration of this year’s “World day for safety and Health at work’’.
According to her, safety and health at work is important for efficiency and productivity of workers.
“Depending on the kind of work one is doing, whether a factory worker, welder and hospital workers, whatever profession, there are health hazards associated with every occupation.
“Generally one needs to protect oneself from diseases and harmful substances or equipment in workplaces as some could be dangerous to one’s health,’’ she said.
Ojo said it was the duty of every employer and self-employed person to assess occupational health and safety hazards at the place of work and the resultant risks.
She said health is wealth, adding that individual should endeavour to visit medical centre for check up.
Ojo said workers should not be too busy for their health, adding that stress related cases could affect one’s productivity.
She also advised employers of labour to ensure free medical test for their workers as it would increase their work performances. (NAN)
