Lagos – Mr Qudus Onikeku, a choreographer, on Friday urged the Federal Government to construct one dancing school in each of the six geopolitical zones of the country.
Onikelu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Wednesday that the schools would further promote Nigeria’s culture, especially indigenous dance both home and abroad.
According to Onikeku, the schools will also the training of the youth on our local dances as a way of preserving some of our cultural heritage.
“Nigeria has enormous cultural dances that need to be showcased to the world.
“The dancing schools will ensure the exchange of cultural dances between different ethnic groups in the country to the world,“ he said.
He, however, observed that for Nigeria’s culture and tourism industry to be attractive to the outside world, there was the need for the government to improve on basic infrastructure, as well as create a safe environment
“Nigeria has numerous tourism sites and attractive cultural activities and festivals, but they are not being patronised due inaccessibility of roads and adequate security.
“Several foreign investors are ready to come to Nigeria because the market is there, but the environment is not conducive.
“The government should reduce charges, taxes and levies to encourage more investors into Nigeria,’’ he said.
