Airports that would also save the cargo terminals from lawlessness as recently experienced in Lagos.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
He recalled that the fracas recorded on Nov. 19 at the cargo sections of Murtala Mohammed International Airport between Customs and clearing agents.
The fracas led to the closure of the tarmac for two weeks.
However, the Nigeria Customs Comptroller-General, Mr Abdullahi Inde, ordered the re-opening of the terminal after series of meetings with various stakeholders.
Ojikutu said the clearing agents should be registered not only by the Customs but that the names of the companies and the staff number of accredited staff should be registered with FAAN and NCAA.
He also said that the registration of clearing agents was important in order to effectively to regulate their activities.
Ojikutu said that NCAA should carry out oversight functions on the operations of the agents.
He said this was in line with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO0, Annex 9) which deals with facilitation within the airport. (NAN)
