, who is the Managing Director, Numeric Technology, an information technology and security consulting firm, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos.
“We will still get there, but we what we need now is government support in terms of the governance; in terms of putting the structures in place.
“Once all that is done, people will get down to work and things will work out.
“When we talk about structures, we refer to the Acts and Regulations guiding activities in the industry; we can never have too much regulation.
“In America, they have regulations for everything; that way, they can have more than 2,000 code of laws and if you make a mistake in one of them, they will get you.
“But when we don’t have the regulations here, people will do whatever they like; you know they say `where there is no law, there is no sin’.
“We must put these things in place so that we check everything that will ensure a better place.’’
He explained that training youths in information security will enable them to not only protect the financial system but to deploy confidentiality to the system as well.
The managing director attributed the stunted growth in the country’s technology sector to the adoption of outdated curriculum in the school system.
According to him, many of the schools still base their teaching on outdated curriculum, a development which has slowed down ICT development in the country.
“I don’t expect serious institutions of learning to teach their students on these programming; what I expect now is to see them teaching JAVA, C-sharp and other modern tools.
“This will equip the students for the labour market.”
Nwume further stressed the need for government to ensure that their ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) patronise indigenous software producers. (NAN)
