Lagos – A Real Estate Consultant, Mr Kunle Awobodu, has called for the restructuring of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) for effective service delivery.
Awobodu, President, Building Collapse Prevention Guild, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos.
He said that the agency required inputs from all professional groups to succeed.

According to him, the agency needs structural engineers, architects, builders, among others, to succeed.
“The question is; who are the workers in the organisation ?” he asked.
Awobodu said that many construction activities were on in the state without supervision.
He noted that this was one of the reasons why many building collapse in the state.
Awobodu said that the incessant building collapse was an indication that the agency (LASBCA) was under-performing and needed to be empowered.
“Let the Lagos State Government restructure the whole system and provide it (LASBCA) with necessary facilities that will boost its performance,’’ he said.
Awobodu said that there was the need for the agency to regularly monitor activities of developers to ensure that the right human and
material resources were used.
He attributed the cause of the 5-storey building which collapsed at the Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, to lack of proper supervision, checks and sub-standard materials.
“The Lekki axis is sandy and that makes it susceptible to foundation failure.
“As a result, the area requires strong foundation layout for its buildings to stand the test of time,” Awobodu told NAN. (NAN)
