IDO (EKITI) – A nutritionist, Mrs Cecilia Dolapo, has advised those with diabetes to refrain from excessive consumption of pineapple.
Dolapo gave the advice on Tuesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ido, Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti.
She said pineapple contains high sugar, adding that its excessive consumption was not good for the health of patients.
Dolapo, however, urged people with low blood sugar to eat pineapple regularly in order to boost their blood sugar level.
On other benefits of pineapple, the nutritionist urged people who wish to shed weight to eat the fruit “because it reduces weight naturally.’’
She also said regular intake of the fruit strengthens the immune system, explaining that the fruit has amino acids which help the body to overcome fatigue.
Dolapo enjoined farmers in the area to embrace pineapple farming, saying it was lucrative due to high demand for local consumption or for use as raw materials in juice making industries.(NAN)
