LAGOS – Some security experts and lawyers in Lagos,have stressed the need for the police to live up to [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
their responsibilities during the forthcoming elections.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday.they said that the police, especially[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
the Lagos State Command, needed to be more effective during the elections.

According to them, the police should start working out strategies that will ensure the maintenance of [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
peace and stability during the period
A security expert, Mr Wilson Esangbedo, told NAN that the police were doing their best but needed to do more during election period.
”The police are doing their best to curb crimes, but need to plan more for the coming elections, ” he said.
Esangbedo, who observed that the crime rate had reduced drastically within the past years, said this had restored the confidence lost in the police by the populace.
”The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Kayode Aderanti and the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Mr Umaru Manko, who is also in charge of Lagos zone, are doing their best to make sure Lagos and the zone, are free from crime.
”They should also do more to prevent crime during the forth coming elections,” he said.
He also commended the Federal Government for supporting the police to reduce crime in the society.
Another security expert, Mr Friday Okputu, also noted that the police force, in the past years, had reduced the crime rate, especially in Lagos State.
”Though a lot still needs to be done, the Force is actually doing its best to rid the society of crime, ” he said.
A Lagos-based lawyer, Spurgeon Attainne, told NAN that the police need to make extra efforts to save lives and property during the coming elections.
Attainne, who lauded the efforts of the police, observed that the force had been effective within the past one year.
He then urged the Federal Government to make resources available to enhance the performance of the Force.
Another lawyer, Mr Joseph Ogunjimi, suggested that more men should be deployed to every nook and cranny of the country during the elections. (NAN)
