Explosion hits World Cup viewing centre in Yobe

A viewing centre in Yobe State where members of public watch matches of the ongoing Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup has been hit by a bomb .

Hosts Brazil had just begun encounter against the Mexican national team when the explosion reportedly went .

According to BBC, the hit Damaturu town at about 20:00 local time (19:00 GMT).

“There were reports of casualties being brought into hospitals, but it is not clear if there were any deaths,” it wrote.

“There an explosion outside a soccer viewing centre here in Damaturu at around 20:15,” Sanusi Ruf’ai, police commissioner for Yobe state, told AFP news agency, according to BBC.

“Our men have deployed to the scene but it’s too early for us to give details.”

A number of states, notably Plateau and Adamawa, placed an indefinite ban on the running of viewing centres during the World Cup, following a bomb attack at a viewing centre in Jos, capital of Plateau State on May 24, 2014.
