A suspected bomb explosion has struck an Islamiyyah school in the Kuchibiyu community of Bwari Area Council, Abuja, claiming the life of one student and injuring four others, according to reports from Premium Times.
The incident occurred around noon on Monday, January 6, 2025, in the quiet community located about 42 kilometers from the capital’s city center. The explosion caused panic within the school and sent shockwaves through the neighborhood.
Emergency responders, including a police bomb disposal unit, quickly arrived at the scene. The injured students were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
A security source revealed that the deceased student, whose identity remains unknown, was allegedly carrying a substance suspected to be an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) when it detonated. The blast also left other students with varying degrees of injuries.
Attempts to reach the school authorities for comments were unsuccessful, and the Federal Capital Territory Police Command has not yet issued an official statement. Calls to the FCT Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, also went unanswered.
The students had only recently resumed classes on January 3, making the tragedy all the more shocking for the community.
