ABUJA – The Super Falcons on Thursday at the FIFA Goal Project pitch in Abuja ran riot against women league side Capital City Doves FC, beating them 8-0 in a test game.
Chiwendu Ihezuo opened scoring in the 20th minute and added another goal in the 30th minute of the game dominated by the national senior women football team.
Uchechi Sunday made it three in the 32nd minute, for a 3-0 scoreline at the interval against the Abuja-based Nigeria Women Professional Football League (NWPFL) side.
The Falcons returned for the second half with an entirely new team, and they resumed their scoring spree as early as the second minute after the restart.
Yetunde Adeboyejo made it four before Asisat Oshoala scored a hat-trick in the 52nd, 67th and 70th minutes, while Chioma Wogu completed the rout in the 71st minute.
The introduction in the 80th minute of team veteran Desire Oparanozie, who arrived from Turkey Thursday afternoon, failed to help the Falcons extend the scoreline as they wasted several scoring chances.
The game was Falcons’ first test game against a female team since they opened camp, as they had previously been playing against male sides.
They are in camp in preparation for the qualifiers for the 2014 African Women Championship (AWC) scheduled for Namibia later this year.
Team head coach Edwin Okon, who believes playing against male teams would toughen the Falcons and give them pace, later said the match had given them a good test.
“The match is a good test for my girls, in terms of helping them build their confidence. We have been playing boys for pace and strength.
“But this match is meant to build on their confidence,’’ he said.(NAN)
