Mararaba – A 45-year-old farmer, Iyo Moses, was on Wednesday arraigned in a Mararaba Grade 1 Area Court, for cheating.
The accused of Aso Pada, Nasarawa State, is facing a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Adaji, told the court that one Mrs Sadiya Ogundele of Area 2, Aso Pada, Mararaba, lodged the complaint against the accused at the Aso Pada Police Station on Aug. 23.
Adaji said that sometimes in July 2013, she bought a piece of land from the accused at N170,000 which he told her he owned the land.
He also said that when she went to develop the said piece of land, she was chased by one Jonathan who claimed to be the owner of the land.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
Adaji added that when the accused was called to prove the ownership of the land, he refused to come.
He noted that the offences are punishable under sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code which stipulate a jail term of four months if found guilty.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The presiding Judge, Albert Maga, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.
He said the surety must be a civil servant, must show means of identification and must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
Maga, subsequently, adjourned the case to Sept. 2,, for further hearing. (NAN)
