MAKURDI – The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Benue Chapter, on Thursday called on the Benue Government to establish food processing factories in the state to prevent waste of excess harvest.
Secretary of the association, Mr Sam Kwa’na, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Makurdi.

He said that farmers often had excess harvest most of which perish because they lacked means of preserving them.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
Kwa’na said that the state’s investment in processing factories would go a long way to encourage farmers to produce more and boost the state’s economy.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
He appealed to the government to assist farmers to have value for their products and thereby enhance their revenue profile.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
Kwa’na explained that as a result of lack of processing plants in the state, lot of foodstuffs were wasted after harvest annually.
He also appealed to the government to buy off every excess harvest from the farmers annually.
The secretary urged the government to save farmers from middlemen who have been exploiting them. (NAN)
