Lagos – Lolu Mogaji, a fashion designer and Managing Partner, Top Notch Charisma Ltd on Tuesday said the level of patronage on her business had been quite remarkable.
Mogaji told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that Nigeria was the best place to do business in the fashion industry in terms of innovative designs and patronage.
“Check the first 50 fashion designers in the world, a Nigerian is either at the back ground or boldly involved.
“We are fashion conscious in this country and in other places too. Nigerians don’t buy gifts, we buy clothes. Just cross the border and you will know a Nigerian.
“You will know a Nigerian when you see him or her because they are either dressed in continental or traditional outfits. Our wiring is completely different,” he said.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
He added that Nigerians were more advanced in their tastes when compared to other countries.
“Nigerians are well dresses and carry themselves well; it is just that we sometimes wake up to it late and it is not late also no matter what.’’
He advised that others that were involved in the fashion craft should be reasonable in their costing.
“We should not over charge people on pricing; if you do people will run. I want to stay in business and be relevant.
“It is a serious business and we should be straight in doing business and foreign exchange is a problem, it is not stable.
In terms of challenges and sustenance of his business, he told NAN that it had been an uphill task.
“I have thought of moving my business to Ghana because of power and people know their jobs there and they keep to it.
“Again in those climes the labour is high but you can get what you want, but in Nigeria they are complacent about what they do; it is very funny.
“Before you can get a tailor that is committed it is difficult. The ones doing it are not committed; even if the money is coming how do we manage it.
“So, for me, you can’t be up there forever; so, you are in business to make money.
“Not to buy cars and feeling big and it eats deep into your pocket but to make money and expand your business,’’he said. (NAN)
