IKEJA – Gov. Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State on Saturday expressed shock and sadness over the death of veteran journalist, columnist and Vice Chairman of the Sun Publishing Limited, Mr Dimgba Igwe.
In a condolence message to the widow of the late journalist, the governor said the death was a sad loss to the journalism profession in particular and the literary world in general.
He described Igwe as an accomplished journalist who contributed immensely to the development of the media in the country.
Igwe was knocked down on Saturday morning by a hit-and-run driver, while jogging near his residence in Lagos. [eap_ad_1] He was taken to a hospital where he later died, aged 58.
“The late Igwe was a trail blaizer, who along with his age-long friend and partner, Mike Awoyinfa, pioneered a refreshing brand of newspapering with the Weekend Concord.
“The departed journalist brought vibrancy into journalism with his inimitable writing style and comments on contemporary issues as well as the stimulating biographies he authored’’, he said.
While condoling with the entire Sun Newspapers family for the loss, he prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the departed journalist.
Fashola also beseeched God to grant the widow and the relatives he left behind, the fortitude to bear the loss. (NAN)
