LAGOS – Gov. Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State on Monday urged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to be agents of change during their one-year service to their fatherland.
The governor said this at the closing ceremony of the 2015 Batch ‘A’ orientation course for 2300 corps members in Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos.
Fashola, represented by the Director, General Services Department, Ministry of Special Duties, Mr Joseph Abolude, charged the corps members to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the state.
He appealed to residents and employers of labour to accommodate the corps members during their service year so that they would perform and contribute immensely to the development of Lagos.
Mr Cyril Akhanemhe, NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, said that 2,300 corps members participated in the 21-day orientation course.

Akhanemhe charged the corps members to always maintain good character in their places of primary assignment.
He urged them to strive to excel in all their endeavours, adding that they should be worthy ambassadors of the NYSC and the nation.
“My dear corps members, the next 11 months depict the next step in your service year.
“There has never been a better time to let the leaves of mediocrity fall from your tree of life; you will excel if you don’t internalise the habit of excuses.
“Let me remind you that good character is more to be praised than outstanding talent.
“Most talents are to some extent gifts. Good character, by contrast, is not given to us. We have to build it piece by piece, by thought, courage and determination.
“Therefore, in discharging your duties in your primary assignment and in execution of your community development service activities, I urge you to always maintain good character,” he said.
The state coordinator also urged the corps members to be determined, dedicated and self-disciplined.
“You will be posted to areas where your contribution will be of high economic value such as Agriculture, rural infrastructure development, Health and Education.
“I urge you to ensure you leave an indelible mark of excellent performance,’’ the coordinator said. (NAN)
