Abuja- Alpha Football Club on Wednesday in Abuja beat Abees Football Club 1-0 in one of the matches at the ongoing FCT Football League

The match played at the Area 3 Sports Complex saw both sides displaying very good football skills as each side tried to outdo the other.

However, it was Alpha FC who opened scoring when Ayobami Adeoti in the 14th minute took a wonderful shot which completely beat the goalkeeper of Abees FC.

The Alpha team was reduced to 10 men about two minutes later, when Ofornaci Chijioke elbowed Dablet Panshak of Abees FC.

In spite of their numerical disadvantage, Alpha FC were by far the more threatening team from then on.

Sunday Itotu, the assistant coach of Abees FC, was unhappy with the match’s outcome.

“We had several chances but were not able to score. Though we did well, but the game didn’t favour us and the referee was worse because he was not with us,’’ he said.

The coach however promised that his team would improve and do better in future.

“We are expecting to put in more efforts and extra energy to win our future matches, and we believe we will perform better after this good experience in the FCT League,’’ he said.

Fiyinfoluwa Ogunkolade, the Alpha FC assistant coach, said he was full of joy with the win in spite of many odds.

“In spite of the fact that the head coach is not here, we still did well. We have been working together for more than a year now. So, replacing him was easy.

“We have played two matches now, and we won them, just because we are a team that is built on understanding.

“Today (Wednesday), the boys really tried. They played very well. We have been winning all our matches and my expectation is that we will continue to win the rest,’’ Ogunkolade said.

He had stood in for head coach Philip Makanaki, who was sent off during their last game.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that in another match played at the same venue, Wazobia Football Club and Medical Strikers FC drew 1-1.(NAN)
