ABUJA – The FCT chapter of the Labour Party says it will not be part of the party’s National Convention slated for Akure on Oct. 11.
This is contained in statement signed by Mr Ashimole Felix, FCT Chairman, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.
According to him, the withdrawal is due to the outcome of the meeting organised by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and other civil society partners on Thursday in Abuja.
The disagreement over the convention arose from the defection of the party’s only Governor, Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State, to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).[eap_ad_2]
Mimiko defected to the PDP with all the members of his cabinet and the members of the state assembly.
The meeting had concluded that “this is a major concern to us that a governor who had already defected to another party is now the one who is sponsoring and hosting an independent party like Labour Party”.
It agreed that a new date and venue would be fixed immediately to allow the party to hold its convention independent of external forces. (NAN) [eap_ad_3]
