ABUJA – Rodnap football club on Thursday secured a vital 3-2 win over Gwarimpa United FC in the ongoing FCT League.
The match, played at the Area 3 Sports Centre in Abuja, saw Rodnap take the lead in the 12th minute.
Ayegbeni Bashiru broke the deadlock when he placed the ball beyond the reach of Suleman Aliyu, the goalkeeper of Gwarimpa.
Efforts by the Gwarimpa strikers to level score failed as Rodnap goalkeeper and defenders checkmated every move made by their opponents.
The encounter became more difficult for Gwarimpa to handle when Rodnap doubled the lead from the spot through Samuel Godwin in the 44th minute.
The second half of the game almost paid off for the Gwarimpa side as they equalised the two goals in a space of five minutes.
Hussaini Shuaibu and Jay-Jay Ayuba scored in the 55th and 60th minute respectively to put the encounter 2-2 midway into the second half.
Both teams displayed football artistry but it was Rodnap who eventually scored the winning goal in the 88th minute through Okpele Zack.
Earlier, Setraco FC defeated Highlander FC 2-0 to move to the next stage of the competition.
Setraco’s Ayuka Santi opened scoring in the 50th minute with a powerful shot taken outside the penalty box before Chimezie Chukwu made it two in the 80th minute after a goal-mouth scramble.
Fayedi Muyidin, Coach of Setraco told NAN that adequate motivation of the players propelled the team to victory.
“I give thanks to God, the match is not too bad and our boys played very well since they know what is at stake.
“Our victory also came from the motivation we got from our sponsor “Setraco’’ construction company,’’ Muyidin said.
Hakim Salami, Coach of Highlander FC commended his team’s performance, saying that they played well. [eap_ad_1] “Despite losing to Setraco, I commend my team for a job well done because this is their first appearance.
“I hope the team will get better from the next game,’’ he said.
In another match, Young Stars FC picked the maximum three points and three goals due to the failure of Jadin FC to honour its encounter.
NAN reports that this is the second time Jadin will fail to honour its encounter at the ongoing competition.
They had on Sept. 25 failed to show up in their match against Magaji Boys.
Also at the sports centre, J-One FC and Youth Arise FC ended their match 1-1.
Yusuf Muhammad scored for Youth Arise in the 17th minute, while Emmanuel Azuztego equalized for J-One in the 41st minute. (NAN)
