Abuja- The managements of some leisure centres in Abuja have lined up activities for FCT residents and visitors as Christians prepare for the 2014 Christmas celebrations.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Dec. 25 of every year is marked by Christians all over the World as the day Jesus Christ was born.
The Federal Government usually declared Dec. 25 of every year as public holiday.
A NAN correspondent who visited some of the leisure centres reports that the managements of the centres have been putting finishing touches to their plans to receive fun seekers.
At the Silverbird Entertainment Centre, Abuja, lighting displays adorned every corner of the building, while Santa Claus grotto was being erected at one corner.
A worker, who only gave her name as Pauline, said that the decoration had become part of the centre as the workers were always happy to entertain fun seekers during festive periods.
“Christmas is a time of celebration and we do everything possible to entertain and keep our customers happy,’’ she said.
A check on the Millennium Park Abuja also showed that preparations were in top gear to receive fun seekers.
Decoration of Christmas trees was carried out by some of the park attendants who declined to speak to NAN.
The Manager of Wonderland, a recreational centre in Abuja, Paul Oko, said the park was ready to receive customers.
He said turnaround maintenance had been carried out on the swinging equipment, to ensure easy usage by fun seekers.
According to him, the equipment includes fun trains, rollercoaster, steel horses, water splasher and pirate ship.
“Our machines are in good shape and we are doing everything to make sure that our guests, especially the children, have a fun filled day around our facilities.
“We have also fumigated the environment to keep it free from insect bites and so on.
“You can see our men decorating the premises; look at the security men within and outside the premises doing their job in readiness to receive and provide security for our guests,’’ Oko said.
He said that men of the Nigeria Police Force and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps would complement the effort of their private security men.
Joe Shittu, the Manager of Meantime Lounge, a pub located at Wuse 2 Abuja, said the centre had stocked the place in readiness for the celebration.
“We expect a huge turnout this time around because attack on public places has reduced in the FCT.
“That is not to say we are not security conscious,” Shittu said. (NAN)
