Auchi – The authorities of the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, in Edo on Friday ordered indefinite closure of the school following violent students’ protest.
The students have been asked to vacate the campus immediately.
A statement by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Mustapha Oshiobugie, said the closure was to prevent escalation of the protest and save lives and property.
“In order to safeguard lives and properties, the management of the institution has decided that the school should be shut indefinitely.
“This decision is to enable management to carry out holistic assessment of damage and come up with solutions.
“Students are directed to vacate the campus with immediate effect and comply with the directive until further notice,’’ the statement, a copy of which was obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said.
NAN reports that some students of the polytechnic had on June 2 protested the “no school fees, no exam’’ policy of the institution’s management.
Scores of vehicles and the institution’s property were destroyed as the students rampaged through the campus.(NAN)
