ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly rearrested the Managing Director/CEO of Fidelity Bank Plc, Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo, in connection with another deposit of $153 million by former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke.
This is coming barely a month after Okonkwo was arrested and later released for allegedly receiving $115m from Diezani for subsequent disbursement to some Chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before the 2015 general elections.
The embattled managing director is said to have been in the EFCC custody since Tuesday.
Even though details are still sketchy, Okonkwo is said to be undergoing further interrogation with regard to the alleged disbursement of the $153m for last year’s general elections.
So far, several politicians apart from some INEC staff and bank directors have been invited for questioning in connection with the previous deposit of $115 million. They include the former Governor of Kaduna State, Ramalan Yero; former Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau; former Governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke; former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Chief Lucky Imasuen and former Secretary to the State Government (SSG) of the State, Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu among others.
