UYO – The Federal Government has approved the establishment of a Federal Polytechnic in Ukana, Essien Udium Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
This is contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Godswill Akpabio, Mr Anietie Ukpe.
The statement said the approval letter from President Goodluck Jonathan was presented to Akpabio by the Supervising Minister of Education, Mr Nyesom Wike.
The statement said the Federal Government saw the commitment of Akwa Ibom Government in the areas of development and therefore the need to establish a Federal Polytechnic in the State.
It said the federal government appreciated the state government’s capital development projects.
The statement charged the state government to do more for the development of education in the state.
It said that a take-off grant of N1billion from Education Trust Fund had been approved for the institution billed to commence classes in Sept. 2014.
The statement further said that Prof. Balama Mbomanu has been appointed as the Rector of the institution.
Other principal staff members include: Mr Chrysanctus Asuka, Registrar, Mr Sunday Okpo, Bursar, while Dr Emem Udofia is the Librarian.
The statement added that Akpabio thanked the federal government for the kind approval and pledged continuous loyalty to President Jonathan. (NAN)
