The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted thunderstorms across the country from Thursday to Saturday, according to its weather outlook released on Wednesday.
On Thursday, morning thunderstorms are expected in the northern region, with storms later in the day over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Kaduna, Zamfara, Gombe, Bauchi, and Kebbi states. Friday will see morning storms in Taraba, followed by afternoon and evening storms in Kaduna, Kebbi, Taraba, and Adamawa states. Saturday brings morning storms in Taraba and Adamawa, with later storms expected in Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, and other northern states.
In the North Central region, thunderstorms are forecast for Thursday morning over areas like the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Plateau, and Kogi, with more storms throughout the day. Similar patterns are expected on Friday and Saturday.
The southern region will also experience thunderstorms, starting with parts of Ebonyi and Enugu states on Thursday morning and extending across the region later. Friday brings storms to states like Abia, Imo, Oyo, Delta, Rivers, and others, with more expected later in the day.
NiMet warned of possible urban flooding in major cities due to heavy rain, advising residents to avoid flood-prone areas. The agency also cautioned that strong winds might accompany the storms and urged the public to follow safety guidelines. Airline operators are advised to regularly check updated weather reports for safe planning.
