have donated food items and six cars to Malkohi IDPs camp in Adamawa, as part of activities to mark the 2024 World Humanitarian Day.
Malkohi IDPs camp in Yola South Local Government Area, according to Mr Peter Paul, the camp Manager, accounts for 358,000 displaced persons with 78 households.
Presenting the items, Mr Abel Enitan, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, said the gesture was part of government’s commitment to cater for vulnerable population.
He reaffirmed the government’s determination to protect civilian population caught in conflicts and ensuring the safety and security of humanitarian workers.
Enitan also assured stakeholders that government would do all it could, to ensure that perpetrators of violent crimes against humanity face the wrath of the law.
Items presented to the beneficiaries by the permanent secretary, include, bags of rice, beans and millet as well as cartons of vegetable oil, seasoning cubes, Indomie and the six cars for humanitarian workers.
NAN reports that the six cars were donated to humanitarian workers in the camp by Dr Emmanuel Musa, founder of Emnamu Foundation.
The founder of the Non-Governmental Organisation said the gesture was in recognition of the sacrifices of the workers towards humanity in Adamawa.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr Alheri Mathias, who received Toyota Venza expressed gratitude to the federal government and the founder of Emnamu foundation for the gesture.
Mathias said, though it is a difficult job being a humanitarian worker, but the gesture will spurr him to do more.
Another beneficiary Miss Laraba Danladi, a victim of insurgency who received food items, thanked the donors for their intervention.
She, however, appealed for scholarship to further her education.
Reacting to her request, Senior Special Assistant(SSAP) to the President on Humanitarian Affairs, Delu Bulus, promised to shoulder the responsibility of Laraba’s education to University level.
NAN reports that the event was organised in collaboration with the ECOWAS Commission, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons and Emnamu Foundation.
In attendance at the event were, Mr Mohammed Fall, Resident Coordinator of UN-OCHA, Bello Hamman, Adamawa Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Humanitarian Affairs. (NAN)
