A recent investigation on Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky found no proof that he received any special treatment or left prison during her six-month sentence.

Bobrisky, a well-known crossdresser, was sentenced on April 12, 2024, for abusing the Nigerian naira and was released on August 5, 2024.

The investigation was launched by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, after a viral video posted by activist VeryDarkMan. In the video, a voice, allegedly Bobrisky’s, claimed that she bribed officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to dismiss a money laundering charge. It was also claimed that a “godfather” and Haliru Nababa, the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), ensured Bobrisky served her sentence in a private apartment instead of prison.

However, the panel’s report found no evidence to support claims that Bobrisky spent time outside the prison facility during her imprisonment.

On September 30, 2024, Tunji-Ojo ordered an investigation into the Nigerian Correctional Service, led by Magdalena Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, to examine these corruption allegations.

On Monday, Uju Agomoh, Executive Director of Prisoners’ Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA), presented the panel’s findings, confirming that Bobrisky served her full sentence with the usual remission applied.
