FG should make agriculture compulsory subject at all levels — Lawyer

Ilorin – An Ilorin based legal practitioner, Mr Idris Abubakar, has called on the Federal Government to make Agriculture compulsory subject for students at all levels of education in the country.

He made the call on Wednesday in Ilorin in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He said that if agriculture was made compulsory in schools, its importance and cardinal role of the sector to national development would rekindle the interest of youths on the subject.

“Making agriculture compulsory subject at all levels will instill sense of purpose on the psyche of the students and rekindle their interest in farming.

“Even female students will be encouraged to take interest in agriculture unlike in the past when female students only show interest in Home Economics,’’ he said.

Abubakar declared that the development of agriculture would rescue the country from the current economic woes it found itself.

He urged government at all levels to invest in agriculture to revamp their economies and boost internally generated revenue.

“With proper investment in agriculture, our economy will be revived and Nigeria will bounce back to its position as giant of Africa,” he said. (NAN)
