The Nigerian Immigration Services (NIS) has placed the sponsors of the #EndBadGovernance protests on its watchlist.
Comptroller-General Kemi Nandap announced this decision on Tuesday at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja. She stated that these sponsors, who live abroad, will be detained if they enter Nigeria.
This action follows a strategic meeting led by Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa and attended by heads of intelligence and paramilitary agencies. The meeting aimed to enforce President Bola Tinubu’s directive to address the protests.
Nandap told journalists, “We have diaspora sponsors on our watchlist. Any attempt they make to enter the country will be detected, and they will be apprehended and handed over to the appropriate authority.”
She also confirmed that more NIS officers have been deployed to land borders and airports to better monitor entry and exit points. The Service has increased surveillance to prevent external interference in Nigeria’s affairs.
The Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi, through spokesman Peter Afunanya, mentioned that some sponsors have been identified and their bank accounts blocked. The DSS continues to monitor those operating from abroad.
