The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has strongly criticized the Canadian embassy for refusing visas to Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, and other senior military officers who were scheduled to attend an official event.
Speaking on Thursday in Abuja at the first annual lecture of the National Association of the Institute for Security Studies (AANISS), Ribadu condemned the action, stating bluntly, “Canada can go to hell.”
General Musa Expresses Disappointment
General Musa had earlier voiced his frustration over the incident, explaining that he and his team were invited to a Canadian event honoring war veterans but were denied entry.
“Every disappointment is a blessing. Yesterday, I was meant to be in Canada for an event to honor our veterans, those injured in battles. We were invited, but while some of our team members were granted visas, others, including myself, were denied. It’s very disappointing,” Musa stated.
He emphasized that the incident serves as a reminder that Nigeria must stand strong as a nation and should no longer be taken for granted.
Ribadu Calls Visa Denial Disrespectful
Reacting to the situation, NSA Ribadu described the visa refusal as an act of disrespect and an insult to Nigeria.
“Thank you for the courage to say Canada denied you visas. They can go to hell,” Ribadu declared.
He acknowledged the pain and disrespect caused by the incident but stressed that Nigeria remains peaceful and strong. He urged Nigerians to focus on building a stronger country, stating that incidents like this highlight the need for national self-reliance.
Commendation for Security Leadership
Ribadu praised General Musa for his leadership in the fight against insecurity, noting that all security agencies are now working together more effectively across different regions of the country.
