Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The Federal Government has commended the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) for its giant strides towards the growth of the Nation’s economy.
Minister of State For Industry, Trade and Investment, Mariam Yalwaji Katagum who spoke at the Industrial Training Fund’s Golden Jubilee in Jos on Friday said the Fund has been the major driver of Government policies in turning around the fortunes of the country from over dependence on oil.
Katagum said only hard work and commitment of the Fund ensured that ITF contributed significantly to the growth and development of Nigeria.
The Minister who was represented by her Special Assistant, Ahmed Makurudi,
also commended the leadership of the ITF for the giant strides it has recorded, especially under the leadership of the Director General of the Fund, Sir Joseph Ari who has transformed and refocused the organization to what it is.
“The ITF has led to the empowerment of thousands of Nigerian youths with cutting edge skills for entrepreneurship and employability in line with President Buhari’s policy on poverty eradication and job creation”, Katagum said.
Earlier in his address, the DG, Ari, said as part of its plan to mark the Funds 50th anniversary, the ITF will embark on the mass production of mobile phone which was earlier presented to President Muhammadu Buhari in June this year.
Ari said the Fund has also accelerated the implementation of its skills intervention programmes and other services that were specially targeted at addressing the immediate needs of the youths.
According to him: “At 50, we are here celebrating this landmark tribute owing to our commitment, resilience and dedication as an organisation and its workforce, as we have had to overcome numerous hamstrings and debilitating challenges that stood on our path while also contributing significantly to the goals and objectives of the Federal Government.
“The Fund, since 1971 has had at the helm, seasoned technocrats, acclaimed academics and versatile administrators with clear visions and commitment to ensuring the full achievement of its mandate”, Ari said.
However, in a paper presentation on Changing the Poverty Narrative Through Skills: The Role of the ITF and the Imperative for Institutional Synergy, the former Secretary to the Plateau State Government (SSG), Mr. Ezekiel Gomos emphasized on the need to create an enabling environment for Nigerian Youths to be gainfully employed.
In his remarks, the Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong while commending ITF contributions on skills acquisition said a technical college has been established in the State to boost technical skills.
