Abuja – The Federal Government has enjoined the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr Abdullahi Gana, to reposition the corps and its security network.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Mr Abubakar Magaji, gave the order in Abuja on Monday at the decoration of Gana as the new NSCDC Commandant-General.
Magaji said the appointment of the NSCDC boss was based on merit and in line with the new administration’s vision to reposition Nigeria.
He, therefore, urged the NSCDC boss to exemplify competence, professionalism and integrity in the discharge of his duty and in compliance with the mandate of the corps.
“You are expected to work harder and discharge your duty with competence, professionalism and integrity.
“You are also required to provide purposeful leadership and transform your agency such that it will serve the nation better and justify its establishment,’’ he said.

Magaji said the ministry was also working to reposition the para-military agencies under its jurisdiction so as to evolve a robust internal security system in the country.
“We acknowledging the pivotal role of the military, the police and other agencies in the provision of security to the country.
“It has, nevertheless, become necessary for the ministry, along with its agencies to collectively and effectively reposition to discharge the core duty of providing complementary internal security services,’’ he said.
He emphasised the need for all security agencies to strengthen the existing synergy among them in order to build a peaceful and virile nation.
Earlier, Gana in his brief remarks, pledged to provide purposeful leadership and enthrone professionalism among staff in line with international best practice.
Gana also solicited the support of members of staff in order to reposition the corps.
It will be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Gana as the commandant-general of the NSCDC on July 17 to succeed Dr Ade Abolurin.
Magaji’s appointment was announced following Abolurin’s retirement from service. (NAN)
