Kafanchan (Kaduna) – Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, on Saturday said the Federal Government would establish a Mobile Police Unit in Kafanchan, as part of measures to tackle security challenges in the Southern part of Kaduna State.
Idris made the disclosure at a stakeholders meeting in Kafanchan, after visiting some of the communities affected by recent attacks in the area.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the police boss, accompanied by senior police officers, visited Goska and Dangoma villages in Jema’a Local Government Area.
He said that the mobile police base would serve as a Quick Response Unit in the event of attacks or any civil unrest in the area, adding, “the Nigeria Police is determined to restore normalcy in the affected communities”.
The IG said a committee would be constituted to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the recent disturbances, and assured that those indicted would face the full wrath of the law.
Idris assured residents that necessary measures had been taken to ensure a hitch-free New Year celebration and urged the people to give security agencies all the necessary support to discharge their duties.
He commended traditional and religious leaders in the area for their effort at restoring peace and strengthening peaceful coexistence amongst the people, and enjoined them not to relent.
The police chief urged the people to stop spreading false reports on the security challenges in the area, saying those doing so were only misleading the public and exacerbating the crisis.
NAN reports that the meeting had in attendance security chiefs, local council officials, traditional and religious leaders.
