LAGOS – Mrs Nike Okundaye, the Chief Executive Officer, Nike Art Gallery, on Tuesday urged the Federal Government to build art galleries in the six geo-political zones of the country.
Okundaye told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that such galleries would serve as platforms for exhibiting the nation’s cultural art works and improve revenue generation.
“The galleries will fetch the government huge revenue and create more employment opportunities.
“The galleries will serve as avenues for exhibiting creativity, culture and arts, which the nation is blessed with’’, she said. [eap_ad_2] Okundaye added that government should partner with private investors to build the galleries.
“The government cannot do it alone, it needs partnering with private investors to achieve it.
“Each gallery will accommodate over 5,000 people and should be located in the central part of each zone’’, she said.
Okundaye said that the galleries would be used to train youths at the grassroots to discover their creative talents.
“The galleries will also enable tourists, visitors and students to carry out research on Nigerian arts and culture.
“The galleries will also serve as platform where different artworks from different artists will be displayed to the world’’, Okundaye emphasised.
According to her, the art industry can sustain the economy and also capable of employing over 100,000 youths.
“For the art industry to grow, the government needs to raise awareness about its potentials’’, she said.
Okundaye said the art industry was blessed with art works, music, fashion, tourism, sculptures, textiles, woods, designs, dance, culture, artisans, among others.
“All these are capable of alleviating poverty and also reduce unemployment in the country’’, she said. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
