Suomela-Chowdhury told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that her government would continue to sensitise Nigerians on the importance of striving to prevent non-communicable diseases in their homes and communities.

“As we know, Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) is increasingly becoming a major health hazard in Nigeria.

“And this is an area where Finland has had a lot of experiences that we can now begin to share with our Nigerian friends.

“We recently sensitise about 250 Nigerians in Lagos on the need for them to work hard at preventing non-communicable diseases instead of finding cure to them ,’’ she said.

Suomela-Chowdhury said that her government was already in working relationship with the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research in creating awareness among Nigerians on how best to prevent the diseases.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]

The envoy said that her government would continue to share its expertise and experiences in the prevention of the diseases with Nigerians.

Suomela-Chowdhury enjoined Nigerians to always take good diet, do a lot of exercises, abstain from the consumption of alcoholic drinks, as well as live a balanced life.

“We strongly believe that the prevention of non-communicable diseases is better and cheaper than their cure.

“From Finland’s past experiences of these diseases, we want Nigerians to be conscious of what they eat, engage in exercises, leave alcohol and live a balanced life.

“This is the one surest way of preventing the diseases,’’ she said. (NAN)
