LAGOS- Mr Chika Njoku, Assistant Controller-General, Federal Fire Service, Zone F Lagos, has directed his firemen to redoubled their efforts to save more lives, properties during and after the yuletide seasons.
Njoku gave the directive on Thursday in Lagos while decorating the newly promoted officers at the Zonal Headquarters, Lagos Island.
Njoku urged all promoted officers to show more dedication and committed to service as expected of them.
“You know, to whom much is given, much is also expected from him. You have been promoted from one rank to another, other responsibilities have been given to you. You need to show more commitment.
“We know the agenda of the President. We are going to have a renewed hope, Now, the renewed hope have started with the new rank giving to you.
“Your hope of getting to the peak is there. So, we want you to also replicate whatever that we are giving to you now in your duties, in your performances.
“You should do better from where you have been. We want you to add more to what you have done now that this rank has been given to you,” he urged.
Njoku, who also appreciated the firemen performances in 2023, disclosed that the fire calls reduced due to the continuous sensitisation duties overtime by his men.
He pointed out that they had been sensitising the people through the media channels, stressing that people were now adhering to whatever instructions that they gave to them as regards fire safety.
The ACG also advised citizens to keep safe to prevent fire outbreaks during this harmattan period as sensitisation would also continue.
“Like we told them, you can see now that we have some scarcity of petrol, people should not buy petrol and store.
“They should keep matches out reach of the children. As they are going on holidays, they should make sure that all the electrical gadgets are switched off.
“People,who play firework or if they call it knock-outs, if you want to play knock-outs, make sure that you throw it at the open space.
“Don’t throw it inside their house, in order not to cause a fire,” he said. (NAN)
